Sensors Converge and Fierce Electronics presented the Best of Sensors Awards at the Sensors Converge 2021 Conference and Expo this September. These awards were created to honor and promote the best products in the sensor ecosystem and the companies and people who create them. There were 13 categories for the Innovative Product of the Year Award.
Fierce Electronics was proud to present the 2021 Best of Sensors Award in the category of Chemical & Gas Sensors to Sensirion AG for its SEN5x environmental node sensor.
The SEN5x is an all-in-one sensor solution to accurately measure a wide variety of environmental factors. This includes particulate matter, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and oxidizing gases like nitrous oxide (NOx) and ozone (O3). It also will accurately measure humidity and temperature.
Sensirion AG created proprietary algorithms for the SEN5x that make it easy to integrate it into existing or new applications. Other integrated algorithms in the module compensate for temperature and humidity in the environment and calculate the VOC/NOx index, which provide reliable and trustworthy measurements.
This all-in-one functionality that the SEN5x provides means that device manufacturers no longer have to integrate multiple separate sensor components into the design of their device. There are many benefits to this. Device manufacturers can replace multiple sensors with one, which means a faster time to market. Research and development expenses will be lower because developers don't have to split their time working with multiple sensors. Using SEN5x sensors will also save on material and assembly costs. SEN5x sensors also feature optimized and tested airflow channel geometry and proven design-in examples, which speeds up hardware design and combines sheath-flow technology with high-quality components to guard against dust and extend sensor life.
End-users of SEN5x sensors receive reliable air quality measurement data based on the SEN5x, making it the perfect sensor for devices measuring environmental air quality to increase health and comfort. Applications include air purifiers, air quality monitors, air conditioners, HVAC systems, and ventilation systems.
The SEN54 environmental node is currently available from Sensirion AG. It offers reliable measurements of particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, humidity, and temperature. The SEN55 environmental node is due out in the second quarter of 2022. It offers the same reliable measurements of air quality parameters as the SEN54 model, with the added ability to measure levels of volatile gases like nitrogen oxide compounds (NOx).
