Encapsulated strain gauge sensors offer improved humidity protection

Vishay Precision Group, Inc. has introduced the CHA Series of humidity-resistant strain gauge sensors.

The strain gauges are built to improve performance under ASTM-5229 “Standard Test Method Absorption Properties and Equilibrium Conditioning of Polymer Matrix Composite Materials” test conditions.”

The strain gauges are encased in protective encapsulation film with enhanced moisture protection. They are currently available in several uniaxial, tee rosette, and rectangular rosette configurations. They have a cast polyimide backing for flexibility and toughness, and larger integral copper coated tabs for easier leadwire connection

The strain gauges have a range of ±3% for all gauge lengths, 5% for gauge lengths of 0.250 inch or greater. Fatigue life is ±1500 microstrain for 106 cycles, and temperature range is  –100° to +350°F (–75° to +175°C).
