Marvell Unveils Andromeda Box IoT Platform Made for Brillo and Weave Communication Solution

SANTA CLARA, CA -- Marvell introduces the integrated Andromeda Box IoT platform made for Brillo, Google's new operating system (OS) based on Android, with native support for Weave communication protocol. Powered by Marvell's system-on-chip (SoC) application processors, networking and wireless connectivity technologies, the Andromeda Box is designed specifically for the rapid prototyping and development of IoT gateways and smart devices. The Andromeda Box leverages the simplicity of a well-supported developer kit and console with a variety of core services built directly into the OS. It also natively supports the Weave protocol, enabling phones and devices to talk to each other locally and remotely through the cloud.

"Marvell and Google share a vision of accelerating the growth of the IoT industry by helping developers create the next wave of connected devices. Implementing the groundbreaking Brillo OS on our IoT platform was a natural fit, bringing the simplicity and speed of software development to hardware," said Maya Strelar-Migotti, Senior Vice President of the Smart Networked Devices and Solutions (SNDS) Business Group at Marvell. "Marvell's Andromeda Box platform is the full package, giving developers, makers, inventors and entrepreneurs alike an end-to-end solution to bring innovative products to market easily and quickly. We look forward to expanding our engagement with Google to further advance the IoT industry."

The first Andromeda Box platform, Andromeda Box Edge, features Marvell's IAP140, a quad-core ARM Cortex A53 application processor, together with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 802.15.4 connectivity solutions, targeting high performance smart devices. Andromeda Box Connect, to follow as the second platform, features Marvell's ARMADA® 385 dual-core ARM Cortex A9 application processor with integrated SATA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 802.15.4 and 2.5GbE uplink to cloud services, ideally suited for IoT gateway solutions.

Marvell's Andromeda Box developer board will be available for purchase online in early November 2015.
