ZMDI Releases the ZSSC3026 Sensor Signal Conditioner

DRESDEN, Germany -- /PRNewswire/ - ZMD AG (ZMDI), a Dresden-based semiconductor company that specializes in enabling energy-efficient solutions, announces the release of the ZSSC3026. As a global supplier of analog and mixed-signal solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications, ZMDI is pleased to introduce a class-leading 16-bit sensor signal conditioner (SSC) IC for calibrating resistive sensor modules. The ZSSC3026 combines high-accuracy amplification, 16-bit precision analog-to-digital conversion and an 18-bit DSP for linearization and calibration functions. This high-resolution sensor interface application-specific standard product provides special features for battery-driven low-power devices, an ultra-low standby current and intelligent power-saving technology to ensure lowest overall current consumption. Designed initially for high resolution altimeter module applications, the ZSSC3026 is ideal for use in any device that requires high accuracy and low power consumption.

"Energy-efficiency is what we do best. We enhanced the basic ZSSC30x6-family to provide our customers with the resolution and accuracy required for their next generation products," stated Frank Schulze, Business Line Manager for Sensing and Automotive at ZMDI. "Unlike many available products today, the ZSSC3026 includes internal signal correction and allows customers to minimize engineering efforts and costs."

Well-suited for applications in mobile devices, the ZSSC3026 also supports high accuracy industrial and medical applications; e.g., ambient assisted living and industrial pressure sensors. Extended temperature range, 4kV ESD protection and an outstanding power supply rejection ratio (PSR) enable a wide range of products in harsh environments.

Features

  • Broad power supply range: 1.8 V to 3.6 V
  • Low current consumption (<1 mA) and stand-by current (<100 nA)
  • Noise-free, 16-bit output signal
  • Integrated charge pump for programming internal memory
  • Fully-corrected digital output signal for expediting system design and minimizing component count
  • PSR: up to 90 dB
  • Enhanced ESD performance: up to 4 kV
  • Package options: PQFN, bumped die, bare die

The ZSSC3026's operating temperature range is –40°C to +110°C. Accuracy is better than±0.01% FSO over the full temperature range. Developed for correction of resistive bridge sensors, the ZSSC3026 can provide a corrected temperature output measured with an internal sensor.

Digital compensation of signal offset, sensitivity, temperature and non-linearity is accomplished via an 18-bit internal digital signal processor running a correction algorithm. Calibration coefficients are stored on-chip in a highly reliable, nonvolatile, multiple-time programmable memory. An integrated charge pump allows programming the internal memory without any additional external voltage.

ZMDI will be highlighting the ZSSC3026 at SENSOR+TEST 2012 in Nuremburg, Germany, May 22–24.

Availability & Pricing
The unit price is EUR 2,24 / USD 3.13 for packaged parts in volumes of 1,000 and EUR 0,70 / USD 0.95 for die on frame in volumes of 20,000. It is available for volume production.
