The WiFi-IT! from North Pole Engineering Inc., Minneapolis, MN, is an ultra-low-power single-chip radio based on the GainSpan SoC and that communicates on standard 802.11 b/g/n WiFi networks. The device supports data rates up to 11 Mbps and can be used either as a standalone microprocessor in an embedded device or as a communication processor that offloads all WiFi and TCP/IP protocol operations from the host 8/16/32-bit microprocessor, connecting via a serial port. Features include FCC, IC, ETSI, and WiFi certification; an onboard application processor programmable using WiFi-Basic; 2 UART, 2 SPI, I2C, PWM, 2 ADC, 2 alarm, and up to 22 general-purpose I/O interfaces; real-time clock; WEP128, WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES) security; and 2.5–3.6 V operating voltage.
