The ZWIR4512 from ZMD AG, Dresden, Germany, is a low-power, IPv6-based wireless data communication module with VPN-like security, designed for use with sensors and other small devices found in industry and building automation, health monitoring, smart metering, and keyless entry systems. The device implements full data networking based on IPv6 and integrates a 32-bit ARM Cortex M3 processor with communications software and an integrated radio that operates in the 868/915 MHz frequency band. 6LoWPAN is used to optimize IPv6 packets; data encryption and authentication is provided by the IPSec protocol suite with IKEv2 protocol for key exchange and renewal. The module is 28 by 16.5 by 3.5 mm, including the antenna connector, and consumes 3.5 µA in sleep mode and 18.5 mA when transmitting data at 0 dBm output power.
