Truesense Imaging Expands Portfolio of Image Sensors

ROCHESTER, NY -- Celebrating its first year as a standalone company, Truesense Imaging is again expanding its portfolio of high performance CCD image sensors with the launch of new 1080-pixel and 4 megapixel devices that provide superior image quality for use in the most demanding applications. The new products, targeted at applied imaging markets such as machine vision, traffic, inspection, and surveillance applications, will be shown as part of Truesense Imaging's display at the 25th annual VISION Trade Fair, held November 8–10 in Stuttgart, Germany.

"Our newest sensors deploy Truesense Imaging's most advanced CCD imaging technologies onto a large-pixel platform to offer superior image quality and light-gathering capability," said Chris McNiffe, CEO of Truesense Imaging. "The devices in this product family excel under even the most demanding situations, enabling customers to capture images across a broad range of capture conditions in popular resolutions, optical formats, and frame rates."

The KAI-02170 Image Sensor is a 1 in. optical format device in 1080-pixel (1920 x 1080) resolution supporting frame rates up to 60 fps, while the KAI-04070 provides 4 megapixel (2048 x 2048) resolution in a 4/3 optical format at up to 28 fps. The new products join the existing KAI-16070 Image Sensor as members of the TRUESENSE 7.4-µm Interline Transfer CCD Family, providing superior image quality for the most demanding imaging applications. When compared to a 5.5 µm pixel, signal-to-noise and low light performance in this platform have been enhanced through an 80% increase in light gathering capability of the pixel, and smear rejection has been improved four-fold to –115 dB. Dynamic range has been doubled to 70 dB, and can be extended even further to 82 dB in binned pixel operation. When combined, these improvements allow the products in this family, such as the new KAI-02170 and KAI-04070, to excel under the most challenging imaging conditions.

The new devices are available in monochrome, Bayer Color, and TRUESENSE Sparse Color Filter Pattern configurations, providing a full range of color and sensitivity options. They are also pin and package compatible with Truesense Imaging's 5.5 µm pixel family of products, allowing camera manufacturers to easily leverage existing camera designs to support the new devices.

The KAI-02170 and KAI-04070 Image Sensors are sampling today, with a full evaluation kit available that allows the performance of the new devices to be examined in detail. Production for both devices is planned for Q1, 2013. The new devices will be shown along with Truesense Imaging's full portfolio of high performance image sensors in booth 1C82 at the VISON 2012 Trade Fair, held November 6–8 in Stuttgart, Germany.
