Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, offers the MPR083 and MPR084 capacitive touch sensor controllers and complimentary proximity sensing software for the company's 8-bit S08 and 32-bit ColdFire V1 MCUs. Both devices support configurable real-time autocalibration, support multiple electrodes, and allow you to multiplex the electrodes to enable detection at multiple touch points. The MPR083 controller is for rotary interface applications and the MPR084 is suited for touch-panel control applications. Both have a common pin-out, I2C interface, 150 µA avg. supply current, 1 µA standby current, proprietary false touch rejection technology, sounder drive, and 1.8–3.6 V operation range. The complimentary software lets you integrate touch sensing for up to 32 electrodes into existing S08 and ColdFire V1 MCUs.
