Tiny Linear Hall Sensor from Austriamicrosystems

The AS5510 from Austriamicrosystems USA Inc., Raleigh, NC, is a 1.46 mm by 1.1 mm linear Hall sensor with an I²C serial interface for switching between 4 different sensitivity ranges and for transmitting data to a microcontroller. Designed for consumer applications, the magnetic linear encoder can measure the absolute position of a 2-pole magnet for a typical lateral stroke of 0.5–2 mm with 1.0 mm air gaps. The device can switch to a powerdown mode, with a current consumption of 25 µA. Applications include closed-loop position control systems with space constraints such as zoom or autofocus camera systems.
