TI Announces the DLP LightCrafter 4500

DALLAS and MUNICH /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments (TI) DLP Products announced DLP LightCrafter 4500, the newest offering from TI DLP that empowers developers with all the tools necessary to bring award-winning, intelligent display DLP technology and the power of light together to create real-world products and solutions for a range of industries. Joining the original DLP LightCrafter—DLP's most successful development kit to date—and other available DLP components, DLP LightCrafter 4500 offers a targeted feature set for easier creation of portable and stationary 3D measurement tools for machine vision and quality control scenarios, medical imaging devices for dental and retinal scanning, spectrometers, augmented reality devices, and more. With Texas Instruments' 0.45 in. WXGA resolution DLP4500 chipset at its core (available now as a standalone product in two configurations) and a high brightness, 150 lumen LED light engine, the compact DLP LightCrafter 4500 is capable of helping turn ideas into prototypes and prototypes into products, faster.

"Our goal at DLP Embedded is to empower the developer community, from hobbyists up to university and corporate R&D teams, with the opportunity to meet and exceed their goals by using the intelligent display capabilities of DLP technology," said Mariquita Gordon, Business Manager, DLP Embedded. "DLP LightCrafter 4500 delivers on that promise, and together with our full line of offerings will further prove how accurate, high-speed light steering is able to achieve so much more than just traditional projection."

In addition to the DLP4500 chipset, DLP LightCrafter 4500 incorporates the new DLPC350 digital controller, which brings the chipset's more than 1.03 million micromirrors to life. An available structured light mode allows for one-to-one mapping of the input data to the micromirrors, and pattern rates up to 4225 Hz per second (up to 120 Hz with 24-, 27-, and 30-bit RGB patterns), while a video projection mode offers programmable color adjustment, color space conversion, and digamma. Additionally, the DLPC350 can produce two input/output trigger signals for synchronization of multiple cameras, sensors, and other peripherals, as well as enable interactive display capabilities with moving objects. A full connectivity suite of mini HDMI, USB, I2C, and 24-bit RGB FPD-link ports makes it easier to combine DLP LightCrafter 4500 with other devices to further enhance usability and product integration. A Linux-based GUI provides users with fast access to adjust settings when DLP LightCrafter 4500 is connected to a PC.

"Our team has performed extensive work around lithography-based 3D printing, and other projects, using a number of Texas Instruments DLP's development products," said Prof. Jurgen Stampfl, Vienna University of Technology. "The high quality and performance of DLP technology has allowed us to move forward from simply researching 3D printing to actually starting our own 3D printer business, and we eagerly await DLP's newest offering and its potential for our needs."

DLP LightCrafter 4500 will be available for purchase in summer, with a suggested retail prices of $1299. To learn more, please visit the company's Web site. The standalone DLP4500 chipset is available now for purchase in either a 200 or a 500 lumen-capable configuration. For pricing and ordering details, please go online. Additionally, you can experience the full line of available DLP chipsets and development platforms in person at Laser World of Photonics, from May 13–16, 2013, in Munich, Germany. Throughout the show, TI DLP will be co-exhibiting with our valued partners at booths/stands #301 and #207 in Hall B2.
