The LTC2996 from Linear Technology Corp., Milpitas, CA, is a temperature sensor for 2.25–5.5 V systems that measures a remote diode's temperature with ±1°C accuracy and its own die temperature with ±2°C accuracy while rejecting errors due to noise and series resistance. The device has a 200 µA quiescent current, 1.8 V reference voltage output, and provides a voltage output proportional to absolute temperature (VPTAT) as well as individual undertemperature and overtemperature alert outputs, defined by user-adjustable thresholds. Applications include system thermal control, energy harvesting, desktop and notebook computers, network servers, and environmental monitoring. The device is available in commercial, industrial, and automotive versions.
