TegoChip Enhances New Marubeni RFID Tags

Waltham, MA -- Tego Inc., a leading provider of high-memory RFID tagging solutions, announced the worldwide availability of new aviation-grade RFID tags developed by Marubeni Chemix, using TegoChip technology for aerospace and a broad range of industrial applications.

Tokyo-based Marubeni Chemix is a leading provider of UHF RFID tags for large industries. The Marubeni TAGAT tags deliver high memory and rugged survivability for harsh industrial environments. The tag is ideal for use in oil/gas, rail/aviation, automotive, chemical, medical, utilities, and other applications. TAGAT tags, part of a full product line based on TegoChip technology, are available now with the 4 KB (32 Kb) TegoChip XL inside, which Marubeni has purchased in wafer-scale quantities to meet global demand.

"The Asian market has been demanding tags like this for quite a while, and we see many opportunities for these products," said Yoshihiko Tsujimoto, RFID Tag Development Leader at Marubeni Chemix. "The combination of Marubeni's advanced tag technology and Tego's chip technology opens the door to new solutions worldwide that help companies cut costs and improve operational effectiveness."

Marubeni Chemix is an expert in developing innovative tag form factors that expand RFID's range of applications. The TAGAT design addresses global interest in high-memory RFID solutions for storing the life history of parts. With TegoChip inside, Marubeni's TAGAT tags improve maintenance and repair operations by streamlining parts service history management, inventory tracking, and regulatory compliance.

"The TAGAT line offers some of the most rugged and lightest tags we have seen, an important consideration when planning to use several thousand tags on each aircraft," said Timothy Butler, President and CEO of Tego Inc. "Our work with Marubeni Chemix is complementary to efforts begun earlier this year to satisfy demand for RFID tags on aircraft." Tego announced in January 2010 its part in a multi-year program to tag parts across the Airbus A350 XWB fleet.

The ruggedized TAGAT tags are tested to SAE AS5678 standards for flyable parts, are compatible with ATA Spec 2000 for RFID tagging, and are interoperable with all standard UHF Gen2 readers. The tags are well suited for industrial applications, gamma sterilization/radiation, and use in smart cards. An I2C interface supports other devices, including sensor applications. TAGAT tags are fully interoperable with the Tego Launch Kit, an out-of-the-box solution used by aviation suppliers for tagging parts to the ATA standard. Tego will include the Marubeni TAGAT tags in its launch kits, and Marubeni will sell and support Tego's full line of products to help customers rapidly deploy high-memory RFID solutions.
