The MRF49XA from Microchip Technology Inc., Chandler, AZ, covers the 434/868/915 MHz unlicensed ISM band and is suited for low data-rate, low-power embedded wireless applications. Features include FSK with FHSS capability, –110 dBm typical sensitivity with 0 dBm max. input level, 7 dBm typical transmit output power, CMOS/TTL-compatible I/O, 4-wire SPI-compatible interface, low current consumption (11 mA in receive, 15 mA in transmit, and 0.3 µA in sleep mode), and support for power-saving modes. The transceiver radio is available on a PICtail/PICtail Plus daughter board for integration with the company's 8-bit PIC18 Explorer and 16-/32-bit Explorer 16 microcontroller development boards. Applications include bidirectional, short-range wireless applications such as remote controls, remote meter reading, and home security/alarms.
