NEWTON, MA /Marketwire/ -- The explosion of digital data created by mobile sensors, social media, surveillance, medical imaging, smart grids, and more, combined with new tools for analyzing it all, has increased the opportunity to generate value and insights from this big data. The Big Data & Cloud Pavilion will feature Exosite, MicroStrain, and SQLstream as well as others on the Expo Floor at the upcoming Sensors Expo & Conference, taking place June 6–7 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.

On Tuesday, June 5th from 9 am to 1 pm Josh Patterson, a Solution Architect at Cloudera, will lead a half day session on Apache Hadoop Essentials for Sensor Integrated Systems. During this session attendees will learn what Apache Hadoop is; what the components are in the Hadoop ecosystem; what the motivation is for using Apache Hadoop; how Hadoop is being used with sensor data; and what the benefits are of analyzing data with Hadoop. This session will be beneficial for developers, system administrators, managers, architects, engineers, and anyone interested in learning about Apache Hadoop through the lens of sensors data.

"Sensor data is becoming more relevant to industries everyday due to cambrian explosion of computing, storage, and ubiquitous sensor deployments. New tools such as Hadoop are well suited to deal with these large sensor data repositories and can derive greater value from large tomes of big sensor data. In this session, we will introduce Hadoop in the context of the openPDC/NERC/TVA use case, where we stored 4.2 billion samples per day in Hadoop," explains Patterson, who was responsible for bringing Hadoop into the smartgrid during his involvement in the openPDC project. His focus in the smartgrid realm with Hadoop and HBase was using machine learning to discover and index anomalies in time series data.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Cloudera to offer a half-day workshop on Apache Hadoop, which is so important to the developers and engineers who attend Sensors Expo," said Wendy Loew, Event Director for Questex Media Group, producers of the event. "In addition to this cutting-edge session, our new Big Data & Cloud Pavilion and Big Data & Analytics Conference track will feature the technologies associated with big data analytics, including NoSQL databases, Hadoop, and MapReduce. The industry leaders who will present in our conference program will discuss real issues and offer real solutions."

On Wednesday, June 6, the Big Data & Analytics Conference track will provide attendees with up-to-date and future knowledge of Cloud technologies. Sessions include:

  • Turning Sensors into Business Value: John Ricketts, Distinguished Engineer/CTO, IBM
  • Real-Time Control in a Big Data World: Damian Black, CEO, SQLstream
  • You Can't Manage What You Can't Measure: Turning Sensor Data into ROI: Matt Jennings, VP of iDigi Applications, Digi International
  • Challenges of Integrating Sensor Data: Jeannette Wilson, Product Line Manager, Consumer and Industrial Sensors, Freescale

In addition to sessions focusing on Big Data & Analytics, the Sensors Conference Program will also feature education sessions on Novel Approaches to Measurement & Detection, Applied Sensing, Sensor and System Design, Energy Harvesting, MEMS, Mobile Sensing, RFID/M2M, and Wireless Sensing. Visit the Conference-At-A-Glance to see the complete, robust conference, spanning three information-packed days.
