Sensors Expo 2018: Edge Computing Goes Long For Data Where?

Associated closely with Internet of Things (IoT) applications and big data, edge computing is a practice that shows great promise in data acquisition/analysis and controlling applications and systems by moving control and data acquisition away from a network’s central nodes and relegating these tasks to the edge of the internet.

According to Wikipedia, edge computing reduces the necessary bandwidth between systems under control and the central data center by performing analytics where data comes in from sensors. In other words, the Edge Computing strategy is one of proximity, it takes advantage of the distance between items of interest.

Okay, the central nodes are known, but where is this so-called edge of the internet? Enter the expert. At Sensors Expo 2018 in San Jose, CA, on Wednesday, June 27 at 1:15pm you’ll have the opportunity learn where, how, and why. The session titled, “An Intelligent Edge - Defining Where the Edge Is” will answer the myriad questions surrounding this new approach to data acquisition and analysis.

IoT has a lot of simple sensors deployed in the field and many companies believe they can optimize the processing locally. This session looks at where intelligence can be incorporated near or on the edge of devices.

The session will be presented by Mike Anderson, CTO & Chief Scientist at the PTR Group. He has 35-plus years in the embedded and real-time computing industry and works with several real-time operating systems. These include Linux and Android-based devices in applications ranging from satellites and robotics to SCADA platforms.

Mike’s primary focus over the past few years has been the use of Linux and Android in embedded sensor applications and the deployment of the Internet of Things. As an instructor and consultant, Mike is a regular speaker at embedded systems conferences as well as many other Android and Linux-oriented conferences around the world.

In order to take advantage of Mike’s vast knowledge of edge computing, you must do that two-step dance. Step one, register for Sensors Expo & Conference 2018. Step-two, attend Mike Anderson’s session, “An Intelligent Edge - Defining Where the Edge Is” and absorb.
