The next-generation BOS 18M photoelectric sensors from Balluff Inc., Florence, KY, are offered in energetic diffuse, retroreflective, and throughbeam models (with both red light and IR types), all in a uniform, rugged metal housing. The red light sensors also include a version with high-performance background suppression. Sensors include a highly visible far-reaching light spot, can be used in daylight or in strongly illuminated indoor areas, and can be quickly aligned. Other features include a large light spot, optical bandpass filters, and a potentiometer for setup (red light and IR models). Sensors with background suppression have a 300 mm range, a multiturn potentiometer to set distance down to millimeter accuracy, and very low gray value shift at close range (~1% at 100 mm).
