The PCM-ZigBee from WinSystems Inc., Arlington, TX, is a PC/104-based module that supports the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless communications. Designed for industrial markets, such as HVAC, lighting controls, telemetry, security, and sensor networks, the 90 by 96 mm module uses the PHY and MAC layers defined by IEEE 802.15.4. Boards are configured with either an XBee or XBee-Pro transceiver wired to an SMA RF connector on the board's edge. For the XBee, range is 100 ft. (indoor) and 300 ft. (outdoor) with 1 mW power consumption. For the XBee-Pro, range is 300 ft. (indoor) and up to 1 mile (outdoor) and power consumption is 60 mW. Features include energy detection, clear channel assessment, and channel selection.
