The solid-state TimerBlox LTC6993 from Linear Technology Corp., Milpitas, CA, is a tiny one-shot (monostable multivibrator) pulse generator for accurate event timing, edge detection, and frequency discrimination. Four versions are available, providing a choice of rising- and falling-edge trigger polarities, as well as retrigger capability. Features include a pulse width range of 1 µs to 33.6 s; pulse width max. error of <2.3% for pulse width >512 µs, <3.4% for 8–512 µs, and <4.9% for 1–8 µs; 500 µs start-up time; 55–125 µA supply current; 2.25–5.5 V single-supply operation; and 20 mA source and sink capability. Applications include automotive and industrial environments where many oscillators and microcontrollers cannot operate.
