The BU21023/BU21024 Series of high-speed, high noise immunity, low-voltage resistive touchscreen controllers from ROHM Semiconductor, San Diego, CA, enable 2-point multitouch operation and intuitive gesture control, including pinching, spreading, and rotating. The ICs integrate a dedicated analog circuit and CPU for precise 2-point coordinate and gesture detection. A built-in calibration function minimizes the effect of panel variations during production as well as fluctuations in touchscreen device characteristics caused by temperature variations or time-based degradation. In contrast to capacitive touchscreens, resistive touchscreens are lower in cost, have higher precision, and can be operated with fingernails or while wearing gloves.
