MSP430AFE2xx Series metrology analog front ends (AFEs) from Texas Instruments Inc., Dallas, TX, are ultra-low-power 16-bit microcontrollers that enable system partitioning in metering applications, such as electricity meters, home automation, submetering, and energy-saving systems. The devices are programmable single-phase metrology devices, based on a 16-bit RISC architecture with a 12 MHz system frequency and supported with multiple communication interfaces. The microcontroller achieves <0.1% error in energy accuracy over a 2400:1 dynamic range, enabled by three independent 24-bit Σ-Δ ADCs supporting anti-tamper.
