The Tower Mechatronics Board from Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, combines 32-bit computing, sensors, and actuator control into a single stand-alone board with an onboard battery supply; it can be used to control a sensor development kit in the form of a bipedal robot. The board has a 32-bit ColdFire microcontroller with 64 K of RAM, 512 K of flash, and it supports the full range of the company's Xtrinsic sensors via plug-in daughter boards. The robot is a 4-degrees-of-freedom walking robot that is supplied with simple development tools to help you write software for sensors while making the robot walk and respond to touch, motion, vibration, tilt, and other external stimuli.
