The AS5215 from Austriamicrosystems AG, Unterpremstaetten, Austria, is a dual-die automotive magnetic rotary encoder IC for use in challenging safety applications such as electronic power steering systems. The amplitude of the output signal is programmable via sensitivity and gain settings. Because of the IC's selectable output mode signals-raw, inverted, or DC-referenced-the device can fit into a variety of conventional motion sensing systems that require measurement redundancy for safety reasons. Features include excellent phase matching, low sensitivity drift over the ambient temperature range of –40°C to 150°C, and operation from a 5 V supply.
