The AS5304 and AS5306 from Austriamicrosystems AG, Unterpremstaetten, Austria, are incremental linear magnetic encoder ICs for motion control applications. The devices provide incremental A and B quadrature output signals with 160 steps/magnet pole pair and an index pulse applied once every pole pair. Resolutions are 25 µm and 15 µm, respectively. In addition to standard linear positioning applications where a magnet strip moves laterally over the IC, the encoder ICs also support rotary off-axis applications by using a circular ring magnet. Both devices are specified to operate at 5 V over a –40°C to 125°C range.
