LM10 linear magnetic encoders from Renishaw Inc., Hoffman Estates, IL, are for high-speed, high-precision positioning for tough machinery applications. The solid-state, noncontact design uses a compact, IP68-rated readhead that rides at 0.1–1.5 mm standoff over a self-adhesive magnetic strip scale. Encoders come in digital or analog modules and offer customer-selectable resolutions including 1, 5, 10, 50, and 100 µm and user-selectable reference mark position. Max. velocity is 25 m/s at sinusoidal output. Digital models are rated to 25 m/s for outputs at 100, 50, and 10 µm resolution; 20 m/s at 5 µm resolution; or 4 m/s at 1 µm. Applications include woodworking, stone cutting, sawing, metalworking, textiles, packaging, paper and converting, plastics processing, and automation and assembly systems.
