Lattice and Helion Demo FPGA-Based Cameras

HILLSBORO, OR /Marketwired/ -- Lattice Semiconductor and Helion GmbH announced they will demonstrate several new FPGA-based camera designs at next week's SPS IPC Drives exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany. At SPS IPC Drives, Hall 7A, Stand 146, attendees can see firsthand the role that low-cost, low-density FPGAs can play in implementing new HD-quality camera solutions targeting the machine vision market.

Manufacturers are increasingly looking to leverage low-cost displays, application processors, and camera components originally developed for mobile applications in new designs for a huge range of applications. Helion, for example, offers image-processing solutions and design services for customized camera systems, imaging modules, or complete camera and display systems in markets such as automotive, medical, security, and industrial.

With the LatticeECP3 FPGA HDR-60 camera development kit and Helion's IONOS image signal processing IP as their base platform, experts will demonstrate megapixel and HD solutions using Sony IMX104 and IMX136 image sensors and an On Semiconductor VITA 1300 global shutter sensor. The LatticeECP3 FPGA can interface directly to a variety of HD sensors, process the image for intelligent analytics, and output the video through its high-speed I/O or through a combination of its integrated SERDES channels, making the solution very compelling for machine vision and factory automation applications.

Booth experts will also demonstrate CSI-2 solutions, showcasing the HDR-60 camera development kit's capabilities for supporting bridging solutions, using MIPI, the Mobile Industry Processor Interface increasingly being used by system architects and design engineers.

Other demonstrations will showcase machine vision and human-machine interface (HMI) solutions for industrial automation applications. The machine vision solutions demonstration implements a complete imaging pipeline, supporting various sensor bridges and machine vision interfacing options. The complete HMI solution, including touch screen display controller, is shown running on a single Lattice FPGA.

"Lattice display, image, and motion reference designs enable OEMs to quickly build and roll out next-generation products," said Kambiz Khalilian, Strategic Marketing Manager for Industrial and Automotive segments at Lattice. "Lattice not only provides the perfect low-cost FPGA technology to adapt to different interfaces, we also provide complete designs that make adding imaging to any system easily achievable."
