MARLBOROUGH, MA /GLOBE NEWSWIRE/ -- ioBridge Inc. announced that it has been issued U.S. Patent 8,271,629, Module-based Device Interaction System. The patent covers core technology developed by ioBridge to make it easy to Internet-enable devices or services.

The patent pertains to systems and methods enabling interactive devices with cloud services, such as smart things, machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, and the emerging Internet of Things. Patent 8,271,629 addresses obstacles associated with connecting things to the Internet. The invention enables hardware devices connected to the Internet behind firewalls to be monitored and controlled securely over the Web by using a Web-based interface, such as an API or mobile app. "Our focus is to make it simple for manufacturers to add cloud-based functionality to their products and services," said Dr. Robert Mawrey, CEO of ioBridge Inc. "Our technology also makes it easy for consumers to setup and start using connected devices."

Patent 8,271,629 applies to the technology suite provided by ioBridge, including the IO-204 Web Gateway Module, associated Web services, and the RealTime.io cloud infrastructure for Iota-enabled devices and services. This infrastructure allows manufacturers and developers to build interactive devices with social interactions and features, such as remote firmware updating and real-time monitoring of sensors and conditions. "This patent is an important example of how we are innovating and creating value for our customers and partners," added Dr. Mawrey. "Licensees can rest assured that the technology that they are building on is protected."

ioBridge's patented technology applies to diverse Web-enabled applications, including customer applications such as swimming pool controllers and Web-enabled pet feeders. These products are accessible from anywhere in the world using a smart device. "Our technology opens up a whole world of possibilities," said Dr. Mawrey. "Interactive toys, health care devices, and traditional M2M applications are taking advantage of low-cost connectivity and cloud services."

ioBridge is working with many manufacturers and building products that allow consumers to have a plug-and-play experience with Internet-connected devices. This market is forecasted to grow to billions of smart Internet-enabled devices over the next few years.

"This is a very exciting time for ioBridge and its partners," said Dr. Mawrey.
