The NEC UPG2253T6S, distributed by California Eastern Laboratories, Santa Clara, CA, combines a power amplifier (PA), low-pass filter, and 2 single-pole double-throw switches (SPDT) into a single chip and is suited for applications such as Bluetooth and ZigBee/802.15.4 modules. The through/PA bypass feature lets the end product switch to a high-power mode when greater range is needed but switch to a low-power mode when greater battery-life savings are optimal. Alternatively the through/bypass path can be used as the receive path. The IC is 3 by 3 by 0.7 mm and offers 19 dBm transmit power with 1.5 dB typical receive loss.
