The E3X-DAC white LED fiber-optic sensor from Omron Electronics, Schaumburg, IL, can detect true colors in marks and workpieces and makes measurements independent of the light intensity and any sensing distance variations caused by vibration. The 10 mm wide amplifier unit processes color detection through its RGB light-receiving element. A range of E32 Series sensing heads can be combined with the amplifier; amplifiers can detect two different colors simultaneously. The sensor measures changes in the 3 parameters (RGB) and processes them as a ratio. Features include a 60 µs response time, a timer function, dual display of RGB ratio and intensity; remote teaching input function; and a function lock. Applications include high-speed packaging and sorting, electronics packaging, and pill counting.
