Digital Color Sensor from Hamamatsu

The S9076 from Hamamatsu Corp., Bridgewater, NJ, is a digital color sensor for display color adjustment, backlight dimmers in LCDs, and environmental color temperature detection applications. The monolithic CMOS photo IC is sensitive to red (615 nm), green (540 nm), and blue (465 nm) regions of the spectrum. You can switch between high-sensitivity mode, which uses the detector's entire 9 by 9 array of photodiodes, or low-sensitivity mode, which generates signals from a 3 by 3 area in the center of the array. Three 12-bit registers simultaneously measure all 3 RGB colors; signals are output as 12-bit digital data.
