SAN DIEGO, CA -- The DASH7 Alliance, a nonprofit industry consortium that promotes the ISO 18000-7 standard for wireless sensor networking, today announced the launch of the DASH7 Authorized Silicon program designed to assist developers who want to shorten the new product development process for building DASH7 devices.
Four leading silicon vendors—Analog Devices, Melexis, Semtech, and Texas Instruments Incorporated—announced their intention to complete DASH7 Authorized Silicon certification in 2011. The program, which is based on the DASH7 "Mode 2.0" specification approved in mid-2010 and submitted to ISO for comment and publication, requires silicon vendors to complete an array of conformance tests defined by the DASH7 Alliance's Test and Certification Working Group.
"This announcement provides tier-one silicon vendors with a way of proving to the marketplace that their components stand ready to be deployed by device integrators," said Patrick Burns, President of the DASH7 Alliance. "Yet device integrators also benefit from the peace of mind that they are deploying components that will not cause interoperability problems, thus reducing development time and costs."
The program is open to component vendors making microcontrollers, radios, or combined system-in-package (SiP) or system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions suitable for use in DASH7 devices. Device integrators wishing to use the DASH7 Certified logo on completed DASH7 devices will still be required to undergo certification testing but will receive a substantial discount for using DASH7 Authorized Silicon.
"This announcement builds on the existing strengths of DASH7's interoperability story and will provide a solid foundation for the evolution of DASH7 's networking technologies," said Ted Osinski, Director of RFID Programs for MET Laboratories. "Certified silicon is fundamental to our vision for the internet of things and to achieve this, interoperability is non-negotiable."
