CMOS Image Sensor from Eastman Kodak

Eastman Kodak Co.

The KAC-05020 image sensor from Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, NY, is a 1.4 µm, 5 Megapixel device that combines the company's TRUESENSE CMOS pixel and its TRUESENSE color filter pattern to achieve higher resolution and improved low-light images. The pixel, rather than generating a signal from electrons generated when light strikes the sensor surface, generates a signal based on the absence of electrons. The color filter pattern uses panchromatic, clear pixels in addition to red, blue, and green ones to achieve a 2X to 4X increase in sensitivity to light. The sensor enables imagery up to ISO 3200, support for full 720 pixel video at 30 frames/s and is supported by Texas Instruments' OMAP and OMAP-DM products for image processing, such as digital image stabilization, rapid auto-focus, red-eye reduction, and facial recognition. The sensor is designed for mass-market consumer camera applications such as mobile phones.
