Capacitive Touch Controller from Atmel

Atmel Corp.

The QTouch AT42QT2120 from Atmel Corp., San Jose, CA, is a capacitive touch controller with a proximity sensing range of >10 in., allowing a system to wake up as an object or finger approaches it, at which point the system turns on the backlight or boots up when touch operation starts. The controller uses the company's QTouchADC sensing algorithm to eliminate the need for external components. Its architecture also delivers a faster scan time and lower current consumption for applications that perform proximity scanning in standby mode. An evaluation kit is available. The company's ATtiny20 and ATtiny40 AVR microcontrollers can also deliver a proximity range >10 in. with the QTouch Library. Applications include automotive, computing, consumer, industrial, medical, and white and brown goods that require proximity sensing.
