Analog Devices advances software goals with CodeFusion Studio

Analog Devices, Inc., has launched a new embedded software environment designed to give developers a more integrated and secure experience developing their integrated circuits and related products for the intelligent edge.

The launch represents the latest step in ADI’s ongoing effort to become more of a software provider as it has recognized, like other semiconductor companies, the increasing role of software abstraction in engineering.

“The goal is to add more and more software to our solutions, essentially creating a software-defined version of ourselves and meeting customers at their level of abstraction,” said Rob Oshana, senior vice president of ADI’s Software and Security Group. “That could be at the lower levels, like a low-level hardware abstraction layer, all the way up to an operating system… So we do intend to be a world-class software provider.”

A key part of this software campaign is the new CodeFusion Studio, an embedded software development environment with software development kits and configuration tools that is based on Microsoft’s Visual Studio code and available now. According to ADI, it leverages “a modern integrated development environment (IDE) and command-line interface, which incorporates open source configuration and profiling tools to simplify development on heterogeneous processors and drive efficiencies.”

Oshana said CodeFusion Studio directly addresses a pain point of product developers, the notion that almost half of the product development cycle is spent on debugging and deployment readiness. The goal is to reduce complexity for these developers and help them to get products out more quickly to market.

CodeFusion Studio also is fully integrated with the ADI Assure Trusted Edge Security Architecture, which supports native implementation of security in intelligent edge devices.
