The Xtrinsic MMA16xxW and MMA26xxW from Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, are designed for airbag safety systems that use the DSI 2.5 standard to connect remotely placed pressure, acceleration, occupant, and buckle sensors to the main airbag electronic control unit. The sensors feature ±50 g to ±312.5 g nominal F.S. range, X-axis or Z-axis; selectable 180 Hz, 2-pole, 400 Hz, 4-pole, or 800 Hz, 4-pole low-pass filter; 16 µs internal sample rate with interpolation to 1 µs; –40°C to 125°C operating temperature range; and are qualified to AEC-Q100 rev. G., Grade 1. The sensors enable a 2 kHz or higher output data rate and up to 4 sensors on the same bus.
