Sales of semiconductors grew nearly 5% in July around the world, reaching $35.2 billion.
That number was also 2% higher than the June 2020 total, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association.
The market has “remained largely resistant to global macroeconomic headwinds through the first seven months of the year…but substantial market uncertainty remains for the rest of the year,” said John Neuffer, SIA president.
Sales into the Americas were up by 26% in July over a year earlier, compared to a decline of nearly 15% in Europe and a relatively flat increase in China and Asia- Pacific with a mild decline in Japan.
July’s numbers were clearly positive, but August saw three weeks of sequential declines then a fourth week that improved, VLSI analysts reported on Wednesday. Year-over-year quarterly growth for the third quarter is in decline, VLSI said.
VLSI also reported a “significant impact” on Huawei production is beginning to occur due to U.S. restrictions on sales of U.S. semiconductors to Huawei and its partners.
