Qualcomm announces Vision System for future vehicles

Qualcomm announced a modular computer vision software stack on Tuesday that relies on a system-on-chip with  4 nm process technology to optimize front and surround cameras for ADAS and automated driving systems.

The news of the Snapdragon Ride Vision System came amid a flurry of autonomous driving news from hundreds of chip and car makers at CES 2022. The vision software comes from Arriver. Qualcomm CEO Crisitiano Amon  said in a news conference in Las Vegas that  the new vision system is expected to be available in vehicles in 2024.

In addition to the vision news, Qualcomm announced  partners for infotainment and in-vehicle digital systems.  One of the biggest partners, Volvo Car Group, will feature Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms in cars later in 2022.

Also, Desay SV, a vehicle component maker,  and Qualcomm will produce a 4th generation intelligent cabin system that will include an AI engine and multi-sensors processing along with network connectivity.

Amon described the value of its Snapdragon Digital Chassis approach as a way to accelerate innovation in the broader automotive industry. It allows partners to customize and upgrade. “At the end of the day, the system approach will win,” he said.
