The 2021 Best of Sensors Awards were presented September 24 at the Sensors Converge Conference & Expo in San Jose. These awards, presented by Fierce Electronics and Sensors Converge, recognize the most advanced and promising technologies in the industry.
This year’s Best of Sensors Award finalist in the Data Acquisition & Data Analytics category was Kaman Precision Products for the company’s AMS-3946 Non-Contact High Precision Proximity Measuring System.
The AMS-3946 Non-Contact High Precision Proximity Measuring System is part of the Kaman AMS-3000 series of sensors designed to detect ferromagnetic materials through non-magnetic, conductive, and non-conductive barriers. These rugged sensors perform in high-pressure environments — from 500 psi to over 22,500 psi. At the same time, the system offers a standard measuring range of up to 7 mm and delivers a resolution of 1 micron. This combination of robust design and precision performance means that Kaman’s AMS sensors can enhance any condition monitoring system’s ability to detect and measure vibration, speed, and runout. The sensors can work with any ferromagnetic target and are able to detect the target position through non-magnetic, conductive, and non-conductive barriers. This makes it possible to set up installations that are leak-proof, penetration-free, or hermetically sealed.
Ideal applications for the AMS-3946 Non-Contact High Precision Proximity Measuring System include condition monitoring, crack and defect detection, shaft alignment and runout, gear tooth condition monitoring, non-contact speed sensing, and surface finish thickness inspections. Kaman AMS sensors are used in research and industry fields, including military, aerospace, subsea oil and gas, films and coatings, power generation, turbochargers, and thickness inspection services.
In addition, the AMS-3946 Non-Contact High Precision Proximity Measuring System offers full installation versatility. The sensors come in standard IP-67 rated threaded, flanged, and bolt head style configurations. They also are AS4320 pressure port compatible and are available with hermetic options.
