Hyundai to deploy Nvidia Drive for in-car infotainment in 2022

Hyundai’s entire fleet starting in 2022 will include Nvidia’s AI platform for in-vehicle infotainment systems which will remain perpetually updateable, the companies announced on Monday.

The announcement means Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models, entry-level to premium, will come standard with Nvidia Drive systems. Drive is made up of hardware and software, which will be used to provide audio, video, navigation, connectivity and AI-connected car services.

New car owners will be able to add new functions and safety features after the car is purchased.

In June, Nvidia announced a multi-year cooperative agreement with Mercedes-Benz to provide in-vehicle computer and AI automated driving infrastructure to start with 2024 vehicles. Mercedes-Benz vehicles will also rely on the Drive platform for functions such as automated driving along a regular route with safety and other applications. Nvidia and Mercedes-Benz had already begun working together on an infotainment platform two years ago called MBUX.

Hyundai had already been working with Nvidia since 2015 with the Genesis GV80 and G80 vehicles relying on infotainment powered by Nvidia Drive. Both companies are also collaborating on an advanced digital cockpit to be released in 2021.

Nvidia technology is also helping Hyundai roll out its new connected car operating system, which will collect data generated by the vehicle and its networked sensors in addition to external connected car data centers.  The new OS will allow a new connected car service platform, an open system to enable partners to provide services to car owners.  Details on the timing of the new OS were not announced.
