ADVICS, a global supplier of high-quality auto brake systems, improved manufacturing efficiency with edge-based real-time visualization and analytics implemented in March.
The company partnered with Macnica Networks to deploy FogHorn Lightning Edge Computing Software in March to get onsite data processing and real-time analytics, FogHorn announced on Tuesday. The software was deployed at ADVICS’ Handa Factory in Japan, and now there are plans to deploy it into other lines and factories in the future.
ADVICS has been able to pinpoint production problems immediately and quickly find the root cause to create efficiencies, FogHorn said in a statement. Manual workloads related to data acquisition have been reduced, giving operations managers more time to oversee production.
Before FogHorn, ADVICS would collect data through programmable logic controllers (PLCs), but the company had to spend hours to develop weekly performance reports on the data. Following the deployment of FogHorn Lightning, ADVICS has been able to process 1,150 streaming data inputs at intervals of 200 milliseconds from each PLC.
As a result, ADVICS reported it has cut time spent on data source identification by three days. The time spent on weekly performance reviews has been cut from five hours to one hour. The cost of the software rollout was not disclosed.
FogHorn Lightning software is embedded as close to the source of streaming sensor data as possible, the company said. In addition to data processing and real-time analytics, it has machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities.
