XCOM and IMT Reach Critical Milestone for RF Relays

Signal Hill and Santa Barbara, CA, - XCOM Wireless Inc. (XCOM), an award-winning developer of radio frequency (RF) products, and Innovative Micro Technology (IMT), the leading microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) foundry/contract manufacturer, have reached a critical milestone in producing their RF MEMS relay product. XCOM and IMT have implemented an effective wafer manufacturing process to produce die in high volumes at low cost. XCOM and IMT have automated wafer-level testing, established critical process controls, and enhanced temperature tolerance for soldering. XCOM is now sampling SPDT RF MEMS relays for size-constrained and performance-critical applications in automated test equipment (ATE), RF instrumentation, and military and civilian radios.

"We are extremely pleased with the progress the team has made in process enhancements and yield," said Dr. Dan Hyman, CEO of XCOM, "Our products are now qualified; as volumes ramp, we are confident that IMT will continue to be a great manufacturing partner with the highest levels of quality and support."

Dr. John Foster, IMT's CEO added "IMT has partnered with XCOM to overcome the many challenges of taking their design from development and prototyping to volume production. We believe Xcom's products will take a leadership position in a variety of RF applications."

About XCOM Wireless
XCOM is a privately held company, formed in 2000, that develops revolutionary products based on world-class RF MEMS for test equipment and new radio architectures. High performance, small footprint, and rugged packaging makes XCOM's RF MEMS ideal for applications where low loss, high isolation, and high bandwidth are required. About Innovative Micro Technology
IMT was formed in 2000, specifically to produce MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) devices. IMT's overriding goal is to partner with companies to develop products based on MEMS technology. Its 130,000 sq ft facility contains a 30,000 sq ft clean room/fab, the largest and best-equipped independent MEMS fab in the world. The company was built for high-volume manufacturing, and provides full foundry services from design through production. IMT currently has >150 employees and >20 customers in diverse applications, including drug discovery, drug delivery, biomedical implants and cell purifiers, microfluidics, inertial navigation, printing, various sensors, night vision, IR emitters, telephone/DSL switching, RF devices, power management, and several others.
