Wireless Monitors for Bird Flu

Digital Angel Corp. plans to introduce its patented Bio-Thermo (temperature-sensing) system to poultry/bird markets with initial emphasis in Asia. The system includes the implantable RFID chip and related identity and temperature-sensing scanners that allow early identification of temperature increases in individual birds, which may permit rapid control of avian flu outbreak.

Until now, Digital Angel has focused its implantable temperature sensing system on companion pets and equines, though its identity chips have been used in avian applications.

"We have had 200,000 Bio-Thermo chips manufactured . . . and we are immediately prepared to work with research institutions and government entities on any further research necessary to control avian flu," said Kevin McGrath, President and CEO of Digital Angel. (www.digitalangelcorp.com)
