Onset Computer Corp., Pocasset, MA, offers HOBOnode wireless sensors that transmit high-accuracy temperature and soil moisture data to a PC several miles away for coastal research, hydrology, and stream monitoring. Up to 50 HOBOnode sensors can be used in a network. The sensors use IEEE 802.15.4 and operate in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. The W-TMB wireless temperature sensor has a –40°C to 100°C measurement range with 0.22°C accuracy over 0°C–50°C and 0.025° resolution at 25°C. The W-SMC soil moisture sensor has a 0%–100% (m³/m³) volumetric water content measurement range with 3.1% accuracy (m³/m³) and 0.07% m³/m³ resolution. Both sensors have a sample rate of 1 reading/min.
