The TE-NODE VM evaluation system from Micropelt GmbH, Freiburg, Germany, is a wireless and battery-free condition monitoring system for cyclical vibration and temperature measurements. The device uses the company's thermoharvesting technology to generate electricity from the machine's waste heat. Signal transmission can be done using established low-power wireless protocols such as ZigBee, WirelessHART, or ISA100. The basic TE-Power NODE combines an aluminum heat spreader carrying one of the company's thermoelectric generators, power management circuitry, and a wireless sensor module. A temperature difference as small as 10°C between the target surface and ambient air is sufficient to let the node transmit 13 bytes of information/second.
