The WSN802G from RF Monolithics (RFM) Inc., Dallas, TX, is a low-power WiFi sensor networking module that integrates GainSpan's GS1010 WiFi SoC. The low-power, low-cost 802.11 b/g module combines 1 Mbps and 2 Mbps data rates, current consumption <200 mA when the module is active and <8 µA in sleep mode. Features include configurable automatic I/O reporting; ability to collect sensor data directly from devices using its analog, digital, and serial I/O; operation in the 2.4 GHz ISM band; 10 mW RF power; –92 dBm receive sensitivity at 1 Mbps and –90 Mbps at 2 Mpbs; 50 m indoor and 250 m outdoor typical transmission ranges; and a 1.0 by 1.05 in. footprint. Applications include energy, security, asset, and cold chain management; environmental safety; and manufacturing.
