The NS9N-AAD-SC from Roland Industrial Electronics L.P., Cleveland, OH, is based on the eddy current principle and is designed to detect overlapping weld seams of spring steel strips. The system combines a magnetizing unit and an eddy-current-based encircling coil sensor that is used to simultaneously detect the weld seam of two strips using a single sensor. The sensor can operate with materials 0.5–4 mm thick, has a 5–30 mm bandwidth, handles strip speeds up to 5 m/s, and provides a 4–20 mA output for connection to a PLC.
