Wall Shear Stress Sensors from Lenterra

RealShear sensors from Lenterra Inc., Newark, NJ, are inline sensors that provide continuous, real-time measurement of wall shear stress in mixers, extruders, and pipelines at rates up to 1000 readings/s with no disruption of process flow. Micro-optical resonators are used to detect minute lateral displacements at the sensor face when it experiences shear stress from the particles/fluids with which it is in contact. The displacements shift the resonant spectrum of the resonators, which is then detected by optical interrogation. The sensors can also be used to calculate viscosity in combination with known flow parameters.
