Vernier Software & Technology Wins Two Worlddidac Awards

BEAVERTON, OR -- Vernier Software & Technology was named a winner of the 2014 Worlddidac Awards for its MotionEncoder System and for Video Physics app for iPad®, iPhone®, and iPod touch®. For more than 30 years, the Worlddidac Foundation's Worlddidac Awards have honored high quality and innovative educational products through its internationally recognized program.

Based on Vernier's original Dynamics System, the Vernier Motion Encoder System is a complete system for studying dynamics. It includes carts, a track, and associated hardware, in addition to a new optical motion encoder to record cart positions. The Motion Encoder Cart uses an optical sensor, positioned beneath the cart, to sense the passage of the cart over a marked strip on the track. The position information is sent as an encoded IR signal to a receiver at the track's end. This optical-only system provides more repeatable and noise-resistant motion data when compared with a traditional ultrasonic motion detector, which is sometimes affected by stray ultrasound reflections.

Video Physics brings physics video analysis to iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad®. Students and teachers can capture video of an object in motion, mark its position frame by frame, and set the scale using a known distance. Video Physics then draws trajectory, position, and velocity graphs for the object. The app also allows for sharing of video, graphs, and data to other apps, such as Vernier's Graphical Analysis. Data and video can even be emailed for use with computers running Vernier's Logger Pro software.
