Series 9 ultrasonic sensors from Baumer Ltd., Southington, CT, are designed to measure the presence and levels of solids, liquids, granules, or powders irrespective of color and opacity and can sense through openings as narrow as 3.3 mm wide with 0.1 mm resolution. The sensors are <9 mm wide and can be arranged inline to scan multiple rows of targets, such as tablets or capsules placed in blister packaging, and can take many measurements at once. Response time is 7 ms. Features include immunity to damage from vapors, acids, alkalis, and other contaminants and resistance to dust and light. Applications include laboratory automation, medical devices, pharmaceutical processing, packaging, food/beverage processing, printing equipment, and wood processing.
