Tiny Sensor Covers Many Bases

Measuring 2.5 x 2.5 mm2 with a height of 0.93 mm, Bosch Sensortec's BME280 sensor combines pressure, humidity, and temperature measurement in one eight-pin LGA package. The component supports many emerging applications such as indoor navigation, home automation control, personalized weather stations, and sport and fitness. Features include a best-in-class response time of one second for humidity determination, low current consumption of 3.6 µA at 1 Hz, three power modes, and separately configurable oversampling rates for pressure and temperature measurements. The humidity sensor measures relative humidity from 0% to 100% across a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Humidity measurement accuracy is ±3% with a hysteresis of 2% or better and temperature reading accuracy is within 0.5°C. Relative accuracy of pressure readings is ±0.12 hPA, which equates to ±1m of altitude difference at a resolution of 1.5 cm. Communication interfaces include I2C and SPI.
