Thinergy Micro Energy Cells Win “Best in Show” at ESC

LITTLETON, CO -- Infinite Power Solutions, Inc. (IPS), an innovative manufacturer of solid-state, rechargeable, thin-film micro-energy storage devices, announced that it has been honored by VDC Research Group with the Best in Show "Embeddie" award for its THINERGY family of Micro Energy Cell (MEC) products. THINERGY was recognized by the technology market research firm as the most significant new hardware product on display at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in Boston, MA, and was one of only two products to receive an Embeddie award.

THINERGY MECs are the world's most powerful batteries for their size and outperform all other micro-batteries (rechargeable and primary), including lithium coin cells, printed batteries and all other thin-film batteries. Unlike conventional batteries, these ultra-thin and rechargeable MECs can be surface mounted directly to printed circuit boards (PCBs) with solder attachment methods. Because of their high temperature capability, the MECs can also be embedded into integrated circuit (IC) packaging and multi-chip modules, as well as systems in package. In fact, only MECs can be deeply embedded into the inner layers of a PCB where they consume zero footprint. This versatility to place a powerful, rechargeable, energy storage device into unconventional locations, such as within an IC package or buried in a PCB, is revolutionary and exhibits the ultimate in embedded power. For these and many other reasons, THINERGY MECs stand out as one of the most important hardware products in the embedded market.

Eric Heikkila, director of the embedded hardware and systems practice at VDC Research, further elaborated on the importance of the THINERGY product to embedded technology by stating, "Infinite Power Solutions' THINERGY product line is addressing what we see as one of the greatest roadblocks in enabling autonomous connected sensor networks—powering them autonomously over the life of the sensor. VDC sees connected sensor networks as one of the most important trends in building the next generation of embedded computing infrastructure, so in that sense Infinite Power Solutions is addressing one of the greatest industry challenges with their innovative power products and that is why we awarded them the hardware Embeddie this year."

According to Tim Bradow, IPS' vice president of business development, "We are very honored to receive the Embeddie award from VDC Research. It demonstrates industry recognition of the compelling value proposition of our THINERGY MECs and their ability to substantially increase product lifetimes, to dramatically reduce the size of the power supply, and enhance the performance capabilities of embedded devices. THINERGY MECs are the ideal energy storage solution for autonomous, self-powered sensor networks.

THINERGY MECs and energy management solutions for ambient energy harvesting are available now and can be ordered directly from IPS' Colorado-based manufacturing facility, which is the world's only volume manufacturing factory for solid-state thin-film batteries.
